St Louis is located on the banks of the Mississippi river, and was founded in 1764 by French fur trader Pierre Laclede. It is known as the "Gateway to the West" - as it was from here that many early pioneers departed westwards in their wagon trains along the Oregon and Santa Fe trails.

Gateway Arch
Located on the riverfront, St Louis, Missouri

The stunning Gateway Arch is the most famous landmark in St Louis, rising 630 feet from the banks of the Mississippi. Visitors can take the unique tram system up to the viewing platform at the top of the arch - on a clear day you can see for up to 30 miles.

Miniature Museum of Greater St. Louis

The Miniature Museum of Greater St. Louis opened in 2001. It has lots of miniature structures, roomboxes, vignettes, and individual artisan pieces on exhibit. The museum has a gift shop and a library devoted to miniatures. In addition to their regular exhibits, they also hold many special/seasonal exhibits throughout the year.
